A MUIRKIRK pensioner is chasing £8,000 she is owed following a court ruling a decade ago.

Doris Cairns was awarded the money after a botched up job by a double-glazing company who, at the time, were based in Thorntonhall, near East Kilbride.

The firm, called Scenic Windows and Doors, was also ordered to pay costs of 10 per cent which brought the total up to £8,800.

Mrs Cairns has several legal documents and letters, which the Chronicle has been shown, which confirm the court decision.

However, the OAP has never received a penny of the money after doggedly chasing and trying to track down the rogue company, despite her ailing health.

To add insult to injury, the bungling company’s substandard work cost her another £600 to be put right, by a reputable firm.

She said: “When we tried to contact the person who had measured our windows, to tell him that there were things wrong, he refused to come out.

“When we looked at the paperwork, his signature was illegible which did not help.

“Then the next thing we heard was that they had moved to Fenwick and had no assets.

“My son then found out that they were in Sorn and what address they were at.”

At this stage, they decided to use sheriff officers to visit the address to get their cash back, but were told that it was unoccupied.

A furious Mrs Cairns contacted them, having carried out her own investigation which revealed that a Mercedes van had been parked and neighbours were complaining it was taking up two spaces.

She got back to the sheriff officers, gave them this information, claiming they had not done the job she had asked them to.

It had cost her another £85 for their fees and she asked for a refund of this.

Her request was refused, while the firm, Scott and Co, declined to comment when contacted by our newsdesk.
