SCHOOL pupils and university students from near and far are enjoying a galactic experience in equal measures at Sanquhar.

Along with groups from a diverse range of organisations, their destination is the stunning Crawick Multiverse, for its annual outdoor education programme.

Already, the site has staged interactive theatre performances and solstice celebrations and also boasts an outstanding reputation for educational visits.

Educators are encouraged to venture amid the galaxies — Sanquhar Academy have already visited with more than 70 pupils going along.

They used the iconic 55-acre site, which is less than a mile from the school, as the setting for a theatrical performance, staged in conjunction with the Walking Theatre Group.

Another group travelled a bit further to visit — from the University of Wisconsin-Madison — a transatlantic journey of almost 4,000 miles.

Professor Katja Marquart led the students, who are on various courses including architecture, photography and design, and completed an outdoor education workshop at Crawick.

Among the activities on offer are pond dipping, fire lighting and emergency shelter building and nature inspired crafts at the site which is inspired by space, astronomy and cosmology Groups can book in for a oneoff trip or a series of hands-on learning experiences, where they can learn about a diverse range of subjects.

Some have been brushing up on their knowledge of nature and camping skills while others have explored the features and inspirations of the Crawick Multiverse.

Site manager, Ian Bell, said: “We love to welcome groups on site for a whole range of activities as the picturesque surroundings offer a unique educational setting where you can learn about a range of subjects, from art and geology to science and astronomy.

“Crawick is open to groups of all ages, and we would love to hear from anyone considering a visit.”
