A GROUP of New Cumnock women have raised over £3,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

Elaine Mills, Leanne Thomson, Melissa Morrison, Lynne O’Kane, Louise McCreadie and Sheena McDonald banded together after their friend Michelle Lorimer was diagnosed with the disease last year.

The seven women took part in three fundraisers in May and June as they hosted a tea party, a car wash and raffle – with the help of Martin Whiteford and David Gallagher – before taking part in the Great Women’s 10k in Glasgow.

One of the raffle prizes, a signed David Haye picture, was auctioned by Billy McLeod and raised a whopping £300.

Sheena, Michelle’s cousin, was proud of their efforts. She said: “We raised over £3000 for Breast Cancer Care - the only UK wide specialist breast cancer care support charity.

“My cousin was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and we decided to give something back by holding these events to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

“The generosity from people has been overwhelming. We would like to say a massive thank you to all the kind people that helped support our events and donated to our Just Giving page.”
