COMMUTERS in Cumnock and Doon Valley are to face severe delays this weekend with resurfacing works taking place on the A76 at Barleith.

The much-needed £150,000 works on the 1.3km stretch northbound between the Bowhouse Roundabout and Bellfield Interchange get underway overnight on Friday, July 14.

The road will be closed from 8pm to 6am on both Friday and Saturday with temporary traffic lights in operation throughout the day on Sunday, July 16 until 6pm.

A 17 mile diversion will be in place on both nights with traffic diverted along the A719 from Crossroads towards Sandyford before heading up the A77 towards Bellfield.

Lee Donnelly, project manager for contractors Scotland TranServ, said: “We will work across the weekend in order to reduce disruption to local commuters and businesses using this busy route. The investment is designed to tackle issues with potholes and cracking on this stretch of the trunk road, and is part of a phased approach in this area.”

Andy Fraser, Scotland TranServ’s Operating Company Representative added: “We’re working with Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible.

In liaison with Police Scotland and the Local Authority we’re scheduling our significant programme of work so that it can be delivered with minimal disruption.”
