A DRONGAN man punched a teenager who had been prank-calling his grandmother.

Derek Graham, of Bonnyton Avenue, assaulted the 15-year-old in November last year.

He was with another man on Drongan’s Glencraig Street. when the confrontation happened.

The court heard how Graham become infuriated when three youths began prank calling his grandmother.

Depute fiscal Lorri Pigeon, said: “One of the youths prank-calling Graham’s gran is the complainer in the charge.

“Police officers spoke to one of the boys. He apologised to the officer who thought the matter had been resolved.

“The following day, Graham and another man attended the complainer’s foster father’s address, and spoke to him about what the boy had been involved in.

“At 7.30pm that night, the boy and his friend were approached by two men. One was the accused. Graham said ‘don’t talk to my family again’.

He then struck the complainer to his face with his fist.

“The boy ran off and told his foster father who contacted the police. The complainer recognised Graham as the man who he had met the previous day.

“Graham told the police ‘I don’t want any more of it. I don’t know anything about what happened at the shops.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Tony Currie, said: “His grand mother had received a phone call, requesting that she meet her granddaughter and give her £100.

“My client became suspicious.

Police thought the matter had been settled but My Graham thought it was anything but. When he bumped into the boy the next day he became frustrated.”

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Mactaggart, said: “It is not for you to take the law into your own hands. You initially did the right thing by contacting the police but you should have left it at that.”

Graham has been fined £540 and will pay £25 per week from July 4.
