A MAN has been locked up after he had to have black straps around his legs for lashing out at police officers and attacking his ex-partner.

George Montgomery, of Blarene Drive New Cumnock, pleaded guilty to three charges after he was violently threatening towards his ex-partner, as well as, resisting arrest and uttering threatening remarks towards police officers on June 2 at West Park Drive and his home address.

The 29-year-old appeared from custody in front of Sheriff Mhari McTaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Procurator Fiscal, Andrew Lazzarin, explained: “The complainer was in a relationship for two years with the accused which ended in February 2017.

“At around 6pm before the date in question, the accused and his friends were at the home address of the complainer.

“The accused and complainer have maintained a relationship as they have a child together.

“The accused was drinking and at 20 past midnight, the rest of the party left the locus.

“He became abusive and referred to the complainer as a ‘junkie b**tard’ and a ‘wh*re’ and he threatened to stab her.

“The complainer told the accused to get out but he continued to act in a similar manner.

“The complainer ran to get out of the back door but he tried to take her back into the house and struggle with her.

“The complainer told him to leave her alone.”

Mr Lazzarin continued: “A neighbour heard what was happening and went to investigate. She told the accused to get away from the complainer.

“The police were contacted and attended and found the complainer crying and shaking in fear.

“The police went to the accused’s home address and found him asleep and woke him up to try and detain him.

“He was shouting ‘specky b**tards’, ‘baldy c**ts’, ‘black b**tards’ and ‘I’m going to square go you’.

“He threatened [the complainer] ‘she’s getting slashed’ and referred to putting a bullet in her head.

“The police officers called for back up and more officers attended [the property].

“The accused struggled with the officers and was then restrained on the ground and black straps were put around his legs to stop him from kicking out.

“He was then taken to Kilmarnock Police Station and was too aggressive to be charged.”

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Stephen Maxwell, said: “Friends were invited to the house to have a drink.

“The accused admitted to me that he never sees me when he is sober and this shows that he needs assistance in getting off of the drink.

“I have spoken to the complainer at her own request.

“What he was doing was part of a drunken rammy between the two of them.

“He cannot continue to drink.

“On his release he is to get a step in the right direction and he appreciates that there is no other option than custody.”

Sheriff McTaggart sentenced Montgomery to 21 weeks in prison.
