EAST Ayrshire Carers enjoyed a week full of activities between June 12 and 16.

It was Carers Week after all, which started with a day trip for adults in the group, with Dumfries the destination. Picking up at Cumnock and Dalmellington they were soon on their way before arriving in Dumfries around noon.

There was much to do in the historic country town with some of the group visiting Dumfries Museum, while others settled for a relaxing day in a restaurant or pub.

Leaving just after 3pm, it was back to Dalmellington Carers Centre for high tea, with the Cumnock contingent departing at 7pm.

Next day, June 13, it was the turn of the young carers to take part in a showcase event at Carers Cottage in Kilmarnock.

They shared their experiences with some VIP guests including Deputy Provost Clare Leitch and council chief executive Fiona Lees.

A spokeswoman for East Ayrshire Carers said: “Our carers individually spoke to professionals about their caring role and what the service means to them.

“Each person is a true inspiration and we are so proud of each and everyone of them for raising awareness for the service and reaching out to other young carers.”

On to Wednesday and the Chronicle dropped in at The Carers Bake Off and Garden Party at Dalmellington.

Cake decorating took place in the early part of the day before the baking was sampled — there were pass marks all round.

Highlight for many was Come Dine With Me on the Friday.

This was an event for carers, their cared-for and families for a fine dining experience.
