LONG-AWAITED work to completely resurface the A76 between the Skerrington and Dettingen Roundabouts will get underway on Friday, June 23.

And the road will be closed for the entire weekend to allow the repairs to take place.

The £382,000 project will address the potholes and structural cracking on the 600m stretch of the trunk road.

The road will be closed when the works begin on Friday at 8pm until Monday, June 26 at 6am with diversions in place over the weekend.

Andy Fraser, operating company representative for contractors Scotland TranServ said: “We’re working with Police Scotland and East Ayrshire Council to schedule our significant programme of work so that it can be delivered with maximum efficiency and minimal disruption.

“We realise that the A76 is an important economic artery serving many Ayrshire communities and businesses.

“That is why we’re working on behalf of Transport Scotland to prioritise such road maintenance issues and deliver our road surface improvement projects as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible.”

A convoy system will be in operation during the day on Monday and Tuesday, June 26 and 27 with the road also closed on Monday night to allow 24 hour works from start to finish.
