CUMNOCK and Doon Valley residents are urged to prepare for common health issues which could crop up over the holiday weekend.

Many GP practices and pharmacies in East Ayrshire will be closed on Monday, May 29, so people should have a supply of medicines like paracetamol and cold remedies.

If you take regular medication, check existing supplies and only order what you need to ensure you have enough to see you through the bank holiday weekend.

Community pharmacists can answer questions on choosing and using the right medicine and provide easy-to-understand advice on treating everyday ailments.

NHS 24 also has a number of community pharmacists who are able to answer medicine and pharmacy-related questions over the telephone on freephone 111.

In East Ayrshire, the following outlets will be open in Kilmarnock — branches of Boots in King Street and Grange Street, between 10am and 5pm; Deans Pharmacy, 53 MacPhail Drive from 9am to 6pm; and Morrisons, West Langlands Street, 9am – 5pm.

Anyone who needs a a doctor urgently, but their GP surgery is closed, should call NHS 24 on 111, likewise for emergency dental treatment.
