A THUG who trashed a woman’s house when she wasn’t there has been remanded in custody.

Christopher Turnbull, broke the tumble dryer, two chest of drawers, made holes in the walls, ceiling and smeared toothpaste over the walls causing extensive damage to the property on Aird Drive, Auchinleck, in April this year.

On the same day the 25-year old broke the window of the woman’s car, which was sitting on Old Avenue, and acted in a threatening manner, causing fear and alarm.

Turnbull appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard how Turnbull had been drinking.

Depute Fiscal, Jennifer Thompson, explained: “The woman had left her home because the accused had started drinking. At 8am the next day, he turned up [to her new location]. She thought he was under the influence of something.

“Turnbull picked up her phone, took it into the kitchen and started smashing it against the kitchen wall.

“This was witnessed by another person who asked the accused to leave.

“Turnbull then left, picked up an item and threw it at the woman’s car, causing the window to smash.

“Police attended and spoke to the witnesses who showed them the smashed iPhone.

“They traced the accused at the woman’s house. They were unable to get into the house at first but when they did gain entry they noticed the property was significantly damaged.

“A search was conducted and Turnbull was found hiding under the bed.

“The woman confirmed that two chest of drawers were broken and toothpaste was smeared on the ceiling and walls.”

The court heard how the damage caused to the phone was £450 and £600 to the vehicle.

Speaking on his behalf, defence solicitor Robert Logan, said: “I have been lead to believe that the damage has been made good. The accused’s parents have lent him the money.

“Mr Turnbull accepts his behaviour was out of order and unjustified. He was under the influence of Valium.”

Sheriff Cunninghame said: “He did not do well on a previous order. What confidence does the court have that he will comply.”

Sentence has been deferred to allow the court to obtain the appropriate reports.
