ORGANISERS have the final plans in place for Cumnock’s first Spring Fling.

Taking place in and around the town centre on Sunday, April 30, between 11am and 3pm.

The event has been arranged in conjunction with the Tour of Ayrshire cycling race, which will result in the town centre being closed between 10.15am and 3.45pm.

It is the same collaboration that brought Cumnock Christmas Festival to the town last year which is behind the Spring Fling.

Joining forces are the Cumnock Action Plan team, the town’s community council and business association and East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities.

Their message is: “Spring is a time to blow away the cobwebs and get outside where families, friends and the community can join in the Spring Fling celebrations.

“As well as a programme of entertainment, stalls are being set up by traders outside in The Square and indoors at the church hall in Ayr Road.”

Stalls in the hall include Kelly’ Sparklebox — jewellery and gifts, Fancy Faces — face painting, EtenAloe Life — skincare and Candy Workshop — candy-floss and popcorn.

Meanwhile a packed programme of entertainment will cater for all tastes, especially football fans who can enjoy Beat The Goalie or Speed Gun Challenge, which tests how fast you can kick a ball.

More energetic is a rodeo bull, where you hang on while the machine tries to throw you into the Lugar Water, as well as a Physical Play challenge.

Traditional games, arts and crafts, music, street entertainment, golf, all ability cycles and street golf is all happening.

There will also be a Great Big Egg Roll where youngsters can swap their decorated boiled egg for a chocolate one.

Staying with the Easter theme, albeit a couple of weeks late, is an bonnet competition, which will leave from the corner between DW Shaw and the bookies.

In the days leading up to Spring Fling, a treasure hunt is being staged — schools have the entry forms which should be handed in, completed, to the action plan stall on the day.

Residents are advised that traffic management plans will be in place which enable people to cross roads safely when there are gaps between groups of cyclists in the race.

Specialist marshals will be on duty who can help in the event of an emergency, while stewards will be located throughout The Square.
