SPORT and Fitness students at Ayrshire College helped raise awareness of equality and diversity issues with their One Ayrshire - Many Cultures and #EqualityIsQuality events.
They were supported by Supporters Direct Scotland and provided information on how to eradicate racism in sport and encouraged more school pupils and females to participate in sport. Paralympic athlete Kayleigh Haggo, Dumbarton striker Christian Nade and Kilmarnock’s community engagement manager Paul Di Giacomo all took part.
Megan Sim, HND Sports Coaching student at Ayrshire College, said “Our event is a good way for us to show how proud we are of the many cultures that co-exist within our community. I feel this event helped pull people together and got students involved in learning about different cultures.”
David Dougan, Sport and Fitness lecturer at Ayrshire College, said “The anti-racism event was an excellent way to educate Ayrshire College students on equality issues. The event was completely student-led and provided a unique, real-life experience which is vital to their development. This event will strengthen our partnership with Supporters Direct Scotland and other local community groups.”
