YASMIN Kerr from Cumnock has raised more than £800 for charity.

It involved a personal sacrifice for the Barshare primary pupil as she chose to get eight inches cut from her hair.

New Image Salon in the town did the needful by tying the 11-year-old’s hair in a ponytail before chopping it off.

She managed to raise £720.82 plus £88 gift aid for The Little Princess Trust — who will also get her hair.

The money will enable the charity to make a wig for a child who has lost hair due to cancer treatment.

And Yasmin’s hair is also an important component in the process, but it is not the first time she has raised money for a good cause.

Her mum Karen said: “Yasmin would like to thank all the people who donated money towards the charity. Her dad Mark and I are extremely proud of her as are all her family and friends.

“She has also raised money for Cancer Research — with her friend Charlie — and the Deaf Children’s Society in the past couple of years.”

Andrea from the trust sent Yasmin a certificate and letter of thanks.

It said: “Thank you very much for your recent hair donation. We are truly honoured to receive it.

“We receive many cards and letters from families expressing their gratitude and telling us of the huge difference receiving a wig has made to their children’s lives.

“In 2016, Little Princess Trust gave away more than 1,000 free real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland. Without your kind support and generosity this would not be possible.”
