A REGULAR customer of Visions Leisure Centre in Cumnock says its car park lights have been burning night and day for more than four years.

He has complained to staff at the centre, which is just off the Auchinleck Road, but his protests have fallen on deaf ears.

The businessman added: “Despite contacting East Ayrshire Council and management at Visions on numerous occasions, the streetlights in their car park remain on.

“This has been the case 24/7 for four years now and is clearly a waste of council-tax payers money — I want to draw people’s attention to it.”

His anger at the waste of resources comes just a week after a council insider expressed her anger at waste disposal charges going up which will lead to more illegal dumping.

This, as well as the needless use of electricity would seem to contradict Cumnock’s aspirations to be a Green town.

Marie Harris was dropping off her daughter at the centre one afternoon last week.

She told the Chronicle: “I’ll be honest. I hadn’t really noticed the lights. But it does seem a terrible waste. There must be an on-and-off switch they can use.”
