A COMMUNITY asset in Cumnock is available once again after the first phase of a major refurbishment was completed.
St John’s Hall in Glaisnock Street opened in 1982, a replacement for a previous version, but 35 years of constant use has taken its toll.
It soon became more than a parish hall and was adopted by the whole community and a favoured venue for all occasions.
Over the years it has been used for numerous activities including meetings, weddings, keep fit groups, food banks, dances, concerts and more.
As such it is now a valuable and integral part of the community, shown by an indoor car boot sale which was well supported at the weekend.
Despite the severe weather, £373 was raised in just a few hours which illustrates the level of support the hall enjoys.
With phase one completed, plans are underway for the second phase which includes the roof, kitchen, meeting room and upgrade of the toilets.
Meanwhile the hall is very much in use at the moment and open for hire for birthdays, christenings, weddings, parties, meetings and conference facilities.
Anyone interested in hiring the hall should e-mail stjohnscommunityhall@gmail.com.
