A WEDDING specialist outlet in Cumnock was nominated for a top industry award.

Flowers by Sandra has been shortlisted in the Florist of the Year category for the South-West Scotland Region.

Owner Sandra Ahern was a finalist in the competition which celebrates the Scottish Wedding Industry.

Taking her place at a glittering ceremony held in Glasgow earlier this week, Ms Ahern was among those praised at the event.

Reaching the final was a remarkable achievement, as a spokeswoman for organisers Creative Oceanic reminded those in attendance.

She said: “Recognising and rewarding excellence in all aspects of business practice, the awards in their fifth year, will reward the talent and expertise of those in the industry that make the big day the best it can be.”

Faithful customers and regular clients had nominated Flowers By Sandra, as they had received ‘exceptional service’.

Host at Monday’s ceremony at a plush Glasgow hotel was Scottish radio personality Gina Mckie.

Meanwhile, the official charity partner is The Well Foundation, which campaigns for clean drinking water in poorer countries.

Speaking on social media, Ms Ahern said: “I had a fantastic time at the Scottish wedding awards and met some wonderful people.

“I didn’t win, but to be recognised for my work and being selected as a finalist is just absolutely amazing.

“Thank you to each and every one of my customers, friends and family. I wouldn’t have been there without you.”
