A GROUP of pupils from Netherthird Primary showed off their talent when they visited Cumnock Memory Café.

The four girls — Cara Lopez, Darcy Magee, Sydney Mullan and Emily Best were finalists in the school’s poetry competition.

They gave an excellent rendition of their best Scots poetry on their visit to the facility and were a credit to the school, much to the delight of head teacher Katharine Crombie.

She said: “I could not have been prouder of the girls, their performances and their interaction with everyone at the Café”

Cumnock Memory Cafe is hosted by the local community mental health team, is supported by Alzheimer Scotland and is attended by people and families affected by dementia.

Sharon Cree from the team said: “We are all delighted that people in the community are coming along, enjoying the different activities and benefitting from the social stimulation.

“Life can be lonely for people with dementia and their families so attending a fun social event where you can meet people and have a blether is invaluable”

Based at Cumnock Hospital, the cafe runs every Monday between 2pm and 4pm.

“There is always a warm welcome, a good cuppa, nice scones and — if you’re in luck — some homemade shortbread,” Sharon added.
