THIRD year pupils from Cumnock and Doon Valley have been learning about the importance of continuing with language studies to help them in their future careers.

They attended Languages for Business, which was held at St Joseph’s Academy for the second year in a row in partnership with Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce.

Pupils heard from business leaders who explained that languages are a key skill in today’s globalised world and how learning them can enhance communication skills, motivation and employability opportunities.

Marketplace stalls were set up at the event to give opportunities for pupils to speak to business representatives and discover more about the range of careers and employment opportunities available.

Provost Jim Todd said: “This event that clearly demonstrated the relevance of language skills within a work context. It encouraged pupils to really think about keeping up their language studies as they enter the senior phase of their secondary education “I could see a real spark of interest in many of the pupils who were speaking to the business representatives.

"Thanks go to EAC 1+2 Languages for organising this very informative day.”
