A ROMANTIC evening for Valentine’s Day is on the cards at Dumfries House.

The building and surrounding estate just outside Cumnock has been the venue for many events, including several Royal visits.

Love will be in the air three times over the next few days when couples are invited to play Cupid at the mansion.

Visitors are being given the rare opportunity to enjoy romantic candlelit tours of the building before enjoying a three-course dinner, followed by coffee and heart-shaped shortbread.

Sheila Gregory, events manager at Dumfries House, said: “We are looking forward to showcasing the beautiful 18th century house to guests during what is sure to be the ultimate romantic evening.

“During the tour, visitors will be able to view historic rooms lit by candlelight, including the Pink Dining Room and North Drawing Room.

“They will also be able to take in the unrivalled collection of historic Thomas Chippendale furniture before enjoying a luxurious meal.”

The event will be hosted on February 10, 11 and 14 — e-mail t.bechelli@dumfries-house.org.uk or call Dumfries House on 01290 429913 to reserve a table.

Later in March, Mothers Day will be celebrated with lunch in The Pavilion, a three-course meal with coffee as well as a gift for all the mums.
