LOGAN man Andrew McMahon has turned concert promoter in aid of hospital staff and a charity that supports his son.

The 18-year-old, also called Andrew, was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when he was 15.

Since then, his dedicated dad has organised three concerts which have raised a total £10,100 for the unit that looked after Andrew as well as the charity that deals with the issues affecting people with the condition.

Andrew Snr said: “We held a charity show in the Glenmuir Arms in Logan to raise funds for Crosshouse Children’s Ward and Crohn’s and Cholitis UK.

“My son has underwent several operations since he was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and that brought about our decision to host the shows.”

Many others in the community have organised and taken part in fundraisers with the most recent events including a sponsored walk, an abseil and a leg waxing session.

At the most recent show at Glenmuir Arms, local entertainers including Buller and Friends and rock-band Wildcard answered Andrew’s call.

He said: “I would like to thank Jim McMahon for hosting the event as well as those who played on the night, my wife Angela and daughter Shannin .

“The total raised was £4,100 and we presented £2,500 to the hospital with the remaining amount hopefully being used to open a local charity shop.”

Dr Lawrence Armstrong, Consultant Paediatrician, added: “We would like to say a big thank you to Andrew and everyone who took part in the events or donated money. This donation will be used to help with and promote the comfort and support of our patients.”
