Thursday, January 12 - 1.30pm: The following schools are closed and parents have been notified - Bellsbank Primary School and Early Child Centre, as well as Logan, St Sophia’s and Muirkirk primaries.

Parents and pupils should also note that Doon Academy is partially closed - pupils in rural and outlying areas have been sent home while others staying locally remain in the school.

There are numerous problems elsewhere with Bellsbank, Dalmellington badly affected.

Stagecoach have confirmed that the X50 serivce will not be going through Sorn because of driving conditions

Many other minor roads are also treacherous although Ayrshire Roads Alliance report that there are no closures.

The Met Office has issued an updated snow and ice warning that is in effect until 8pm on Thursday evening.

Strong winds up to around 60 mph and wintry showers will continue across much of Scotland this afternoon and evening.

Many of the showers will fall as snow away from western coasts, with ice, hail and lightning posing additional hazards.

Up to 20 cm of snow may accumulate over some higher ground during the day, with drifting and blizzard conditions at times.

Road and rail services may be affected with delays and cancellations possible and travellers have been told to expect longer journey times.
