TWO men have been charged with robbing a store in New Cumnock - and attempting to rob another in Cumnock.

Callum McCracken, 24, and Bryan Wallace, 31, appeared on petition at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday afternoon.

They were charged with assault, robbery and attempted robbery.

Wallace was also charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The men, who are both from Cumnock, entered no plea and were committed for further examination.

They were released on bail.

The court appearances follow two incidents on Saturday night, January 7.

It is alleged that a 55-year-old male shopkeeper in Ali’s General Store in Hearth Place, Cumnock, was subjected to an attempted robbery.

A 37-year-old male shopkeeper in the Day to Day store in Highpark Ave, New Cumnock, was also allegedly threatened with a knife and robbed of a three figure sum of cash.

Both men are expected to appear back in court at a later date.
