A GOOD Samaritan is adopting a cat that was abandoned in Muirkirk two days before Christmas.
Animal welfare charity, the Scottish SPCA, was alerted on Friday, December 23, when the traumatised moggie was discovered at the front gate of Muirkirk Day Centre in Furnace Road.
She was taken into the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Glasgow where staff named her Casper.
Animal rescue officer Jade Cummings said: “Casper was found in a tan pet carrier which was covered in a black bin bag and high visibility vest at around 7am on December 23.
“We are unsure if she was dumped there during the night or in the morning, however she was abandoned during storm Barbara and the outcome could’ve been a lot worse.”
Despite extensive public appeals on their website and social media, no-one came forward to claim Casper or provide clues to her owner — however the story has a happy ending.
A spokeswoman for the charity said: “Casper was a nice girl who arrived in our care as a stray. All she needs is a warm cosy home to come back to after a fun filled day of playing and an owner who will give her the care and love she deserves. The good news is that she has been reserved and will hopefully be going to a new home shortly.
Anyone with information about who abandoned Casper should contact the Scottish SPCA on 03000 999 999.
