CUMNOCK has been hit with a spate of sneak-in thefts.
Polce are now warning residents to be extra vigilant and keep security in mind following a number of thefts from homes in the Cumnock area recently.
In some instances it is believed that the suspect gained entry to the homes through an unlocked door or an open window.
PC Baillie of Cumnock Community Policing Team said: “When someone’s home is broken into it can be particularly distressing for them and we are committed to tackling criminals who commit such crimes. I would encourage householders to take steps to reduce the chances of it happening to them. Whether you are at home, in the garden or in town, we would always advise that doors should be locked to reduce the likelihood of unwanted visitors gaining access to your home.”
Police are now providing tips on how to reduce the risk of becoming the victim of an opportunist criminal, including keeping your home securely locked at all times and avoid keeping large amounts of cash in the house.
Don’t leave valuables in sight of windows, particularly around the tree at Christmas time.
