THE new boundary changes are a 'slap in the face to Scotland'.

Corri Wilson says that the new proposed changes would diminish Scotland's representation at Westminster.

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP, Ms Wilson's seat is set to be carved up, with the constituency being moved west. It's proposed that Ms Wilson's current seat would be re-drawn and named Ayr and Carrick.

Commenting on the proposals published by the Boundary Commission for Scotland, Ms Wilson said: "These proposals are a slap in the face to Scotland. We already have to suffer being inflicted with governments we do not vote for, and laws being made and matters being influenced by members of the House of Lords that nobody voted for. It's clear that, while we are still part of the UK, the Scottish people need to have strong elected representation at Westminster to stand up for Scotland’s interests, and these changes only erode that representation.

“This plan is supposedly a route to reducing the cost of politics, but cutting the number of elected representatives while packing the Lords with cronies and party donors demonstrates the undemocratic nature of the UK Government’s intentions here. We are now in the ludicrous position where we have more Scottish peers than Scottish MPs.

“The UK political system is broken. It doesn’t represent or serve the needs of the nations or regions of the UK properly, and these proposals do little more than reinforce the contempt this Government has for the values of democracy.”
