ONE of the biggest local events of the summer is making a return.

The Cumnock Carnival is set to return in 2017 after last years edition was cancelled.

The event is being organised by CREATE, is a local voluntary group within the Cumnock and Doon Valley Area.

It will attract bands and festival goers from across the country

The CREATE committee has decided that they will go ahead and begin organising the Cumnock Carnival for June 2017 and are now looking for support from the community.

The 2017 carnival is set for Saturday June 10 at the Woodroad Park.

Carnival Secretary, Shaun Lowrie said: "We need the support of local people. We need support with fundraising, planning the event, stalls, entertainment, decorating the town and spreading the word that the Carnival is coming.

"We want to bring back a parade that goes through the town centre and will incorporate the whole of the community.

"We have planned a 'Carnival Blether' to let people see what's involved and to identify people who have skills, talents or just a general interest in helping us make this happen."

The blether is happening on Thursday October 20 at 7pm in the Barrhill Centre on Bank Avenue, where tea, coffee and scones will be on offer along with the opportunity for individuals to offer some assistance, no matter how big or small.

CREATE is now inviting local people and groups along to the event as well and business to work together ahead of the showpiece event next summer.
