MAUCHLINE Burns Club are set to unveil commemorative plaques for Ballochmyle Hospital and Burns Bonnie Lass of Ballochmyle.

The residents of Ballochmyle estate and the Burns Club have combined to commemorate the work of the hospital and Burns’ bonnie lass.

On Wednesday October 19 at 2pm, Sir Kenneth Calman will unveil a cairn and plaque to mark the work of the hospital in war and peace.

As a wartime centre it treated service personnel from various theatres of war including the D-Day landings. It was internationally acclaimed for the plastic surgery unit dealing with both Scottish and London blitz victims.

The plaque in memory of Wilhelmina Alexander, the bonnie lass of Ballochmyle, will appropriately be unveiled by Lady Hagart Alexander, wife of the late Sir Caud Alexander, a direct descendant of Wilhelmina’s brother.

Any ex-members of the hospital staff are welcome to attend the unveiling.
