CONTINENTAL visitors enjoyed some Scottish hospitality in Mauchline on Saturday.

It took place when Mauchline United invited Bleu Gelb Alleringerslebin, from a small village in the former East Germany, to take part in a friendly football match.

They arranged the match in return for the way the residents of Alleringerslebin, which has a population of 400, looked after the team when Mauchline United played there in 2014.

Provost Jim Todd gave the visitors an official welcome before presenting pennants to both teams, while East Ayrshire Council’s chief executive, Fiona Lees, gave a closing speech and presented of trophies at the end of the match.

While they were here they were taken to some tourist attractions near and far, such as Dumfries House, Burns Museum, Sorn Castle, Hampden Park and a distillery near.

The provost is pictured with both sides, above, while action shots from the match also feature.

Tesco Auchinleck supported the event by supplying refreshments while the anti-bigotry charity, Nil By Mouth, sponsored the match.
