A GROUP of potential young rugby stars got to grips with the game at a recent funday.

On Sunday October 2 nearly 50 P1-3 boys and girls headed along to the Cumnock Cougars micro rugby fun day at Broomfield to give rugby a try.

With the sun shining, the youngsters were given a free introductory session focusing on micro rugby skills but most importantly on having fun.

Micro rugby is a non-contact touch rugby game for boys and girls in P1-3 and focuses on developing running and passing skills, team work, fitness, offering introduction to rugby through training and games against other local clubs.

The kids had a great time as they enthusiastically got stuck in to training.

After the session kids and parents joined coaches in the clubhouse for sandwiches and cakes.

Gordon Hay P1-7 Coordinator at Cumnock RFC said: "It’s great to see so many new kids coming down to Broomfield and running around in the sun having fun playing rugby. At Cumnock RFC we have one of the biggest and best supported Youth Sections in the country with teams for all boys and girls from P1 to Under 18 – and as we saw today all new players and their families can expect a very warm welcome."

All boys and girls in P1-3 are welcome to attend the next training session on Sunday October 9 at 11am at Broomfield House.
