Here is your Olympic medalist.
Cumnock rugby star Mark Bennett helped Team GB to a sensational silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
sportscotland’s Chief Executive Stewart Harris has congratulated all of the players in the team, including Scotland’s Mark Bennett and Mark Robertson. Mr Harris, who supported the team in the Deodoro Stadium in Rio, said: “It was a terrific achievement for Team GB to reach the final of the first Olympic Rugby 7s competition here in Rio. Congratulations to all the players, especially the Scots, Mark Robertson and Mark Bennett, who made significant contributions in helping the team win the silver medal.
“Well done to Fiji, who were simply outstanding in the final and thoroughly deserved their victory and every accolade coming their way after winning their country’s first ever Olympic medal.
“Day six of the Olympics has been tremendous with Scots winning medals in rowing, canoe slalom, cycling, and rugby 7s. There are another ten days of competition remaining and already Scots have won six medals, only one short of our best ever away Olympic Games medal tally set in Sydney 2000.”
