MARK Bennett and Team GB Rugby 7s are on the verge of glory.
Cumnock lad Mark starred for Team GB as they sensationally sealed a spot in the Olympic semi final with a nerve-racking sudden death victory over Argentina last night.
It was a tense match in which both teams failed to make the break through.
Argentina probed the GB defence and only some incredible last gasp tackles stopped the the Pumas from breaking the deadlock in the first half.
GB continued to be dogged in defence and began to find opening in the Argentina back line after the break.
James Davies almost put GB ahead as he raced down the left wing, only to be tackled just short of the line.
Team GB then gave up a penalty in stoppage time that would have seen Argentina advance, but the penalty was missed as GB breathed a sigh of relief.
The game became even more tense as it entered sudden death.
Britain then won a penalty of thier own to give themselves the chance to put the game to bed, but the kick for goal agonisingly came back off the upright.
The drama came to a head when GB were awarded a scrum. They worked the ball to Dan Bibby who darted between two Argentina defenders to score and send Britain in to the semi final.
GB now face South Africa in the semi final whilst Fiji meet Japan in the other semi final.
Bennett and Team GB face the South Africans at 7pm UK time.
Should they steer their way past the Springboks then they will play in the Olympic final at 11pm.
The bronze medal match will be played at 10.30pm.
