THE local MP has met with bank chiefs following the announcement of a branch closure in Dalmellington.

The Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Dalmellington Main Street has been earmarked for closure from next month.

Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP, Corri Wilson this week met with RBS chiefs to discuss some of the key issues surrounding the closure.

Ms Wilson met with bosses, as well as local residents, at The Zone in Dalmellington on Monday.

RBS are blaming the closure on customers ‘increasingly choosing to use different ways to bank’.

Following the meeting, Ms Wilson said: "They have gone back to have a look at some of the main causes for concern.

"It's really critical that people get access to their money."

The bank has proposed to send in a mobile bank for just three hours a week.

"RBS have now said that they will engage with local businesses. They have said that all of the details are not set in stone.

"In an area that has high deprivation, to go all the the way to Ayr or Cumnock is totally unacceptable.

"My concern is that, this is the third bank to close in my constituency in last year. Where is it going to stop?

"The meeting itself was a positive one in that they have now agreed to go away and look at certain things."
