THE residents of New Cumnock were saddened to see the disappearance of a favourite and famous part of the town's landscape - Arthur Memorial Church.

During the demolition of the building a special discovery was made by Lyndsay McLounie and his team. They unearthed a time capsule dating back to 1912 and containing even older items, plus the salvaging of the Church bell and the Cross from the top of the front of the building.

As part of the refurbishment of the outside of the Parish Church the Arthur Memorial Cross will be re-sited in the grounds of the Parish Church on top of a cairn, built by Andy McClounie, with space for a time capsule which will contain items from the Church and the wider community.

If you or your organisation would like to contribute an item or ideas for the time capsule then contact the Rev Helen Cuthbert on 01290338296 by June 29.

Its hoped the cairn will be completed by August and there will be a dedication service later that month.
