WORK to alleviate New Cumnock's flooding woes has been carried out.
Vital river management work took place over the weekend at the Afton Water as the Ayrshire Roads Alliance began their New Cumnock flood prevention improvement programme.
The river management programme, which was agreed with local stakeholders, took place on Saturday June 11 and Sunday June 12.
The work was carried out by specialist contractor, Duncan Plant Hire, and involved the removal of stones and debris from the riverbed.
The next stage of the project will be at the Leggate.
Later this month Ayrshire Roads Alliance will undertake site clearance and the BT phone lines will be relocated. Carriageway works will also be undertaken.
Once these advance works are completed work will then commence in the burn which will involve retaining walls and embankments.
The aim of the work is to protect the homes within the Leggate and it is expected to last up to four months.
