IT was a sweet end to a frustrating season for Talbot star Robert Love.

The forward made the switch from bitter rivals Cumnock last summer and he has failed to nail down a regular place on Tommy Sloan's starting eleven and he admits that he has been left frustrated at his lack of starts for the Beechwood side.

Love helped himself to a superb double on Saturday as Talbot got their hand on the Evening Times Cup thanks to a 5-2 win over Renfrew at Newlandsfield.

The Talbot hitman said: "It was a good weekend for us. We won the cup on Saturday and then we had the player of the year awards at night.

"We were well on top against Renfrew, especially in the first half. They came back at us and there was real panic for about 20 minutes when they made it 2-2 and they could have had a third had it not been for big Andy Leishman pulling off a brilliant save but we just kept playing and got the goals."

Love then reflected on his first season at Beechwood. He said: "It's been great winning a treble in my first season, but it's been quite hard not playing every week. I'd obviously like to play much more. But I knew it would be hard to get in the team when I made the move. There's some great players here and it's hard to break in to the managers starting team when guys like Graham Wilson are playing so well, so it's hard to argue with the manager.

"I'm now looking to try and force my way in to the team for next season and really just give the manager something to think about."

Love is now looking to force his way in to Tommy Sloans long term plans. Sloan was this week boosted by the news that a host of stars have penned contract extensions.

Bryan Young, Martin McGoldrick, Mark Shankland and Gordon Pope have all signed new deals with the club.
