THESE youngsters took the plunge to mark opening day at the New Cumnock outdoor pool.

The pool opened for the first day of summer and around 75 people turned out to get in on the action. They were joined by many more who turned up for the opening day.

Committee member, Gette Fulton said: "It was a brilliant day. We had lovely weather and that brought out lots of people.

"We had families from Glasgow and Irvine come all the way down just for it.

"Hopefully the lovely weather keeps up and people keep coming."

Tireless work has been put in to the pool and the committee are still looking for local volunteers that are interested in lending a helping hand whenever they can.

Gette added: "We've got new lifeguards in this year and we even have a supervisor so that should make their jobs a bit easier.

"We have fifteen members, with twelve on the committee, but we would really like a few extra volunteers to come along and offer to help out with things like serving in the cafe. We had four people working in the cafe on opening day and people were still queuing up, that's how busy it was."

Youngsters cooled off with a dip in the pool as the DJ pumped music over the loud speaker, and reminded those who can't swim to jump in to the shallow end.

The pool will be open throughout the summer. For full details on pool opening times visit www.newcumnockpool.co.uk.
