NEW Cumnock is set for a fun day of activities at the Community Wildlife Garden.

The East Ayrshire Coalfield Environment Initiative (CEI) is inviting local residents to get involved in a fun day of activities to celebrate the New Cumnock environment on Thursday April 28 at 10am.

Activities include sowing wildflower seeds, building bug hotels and installing a new planter as well as a spot of bug hunting for those wildlife lovers among you.

Free to take away will be new walking leaflets for the New Cumnock path network as well as information on wildlife gardening and a selection of special celebration cupcakes to taste.

Since October 2015, the CEI and its team of dedicated volunteers have been making significant improvements to the New Cumnock Community Wildlife Garden with the help of funding from East Ayrshire Council’s Restoring Communities Programme Fund, including replacing broken planters, building a new compost bin, planting new bulbs and shrubs and designing new and improved path leaflets for the New Cumnock path network.

Jennifer Dunn, project officer for the CEI said: “New Cumnock has a beautiful and diverse natural environment to explore including wetlands, woodlands, rivers and glens. We want to celebrate this with a fun day of wildlife themed activities for everyone to enjoy. You can learn new skills in wildlife gardening, have fun looking for and recording wildlife, learn about the walks in the area or simply come along and have a chat with a drink and a cupcake."

No experience is needed and all tools and equipment are provided.
