A FUMING father has hit out after a shop worker who sexually assaulted his daughter in New Cumnock was given just 18 months supervision.

The raging dad hit out after Adeel Mokhtar, 38, was handed 18 months supervision and was placed on the sex offenders register for 18 months for touching the young girl 10, and her nine-year-old friend.

Mokhtar worked at Kelly Stores on Highpark Avenue in New Cumnock.

On July 29 last year, the two youngsters had gone in to the store with their pocket money to buy sweets when Mokhtar handled and pinched their bums.

The sickened dad branded the decision ‘disgusting’.

He said: “It’s disgusting. The two wee lassies went in to the shop to buy some sweeties and he stuck his hand down their trousers. He denied it from day one.

“I suppose in the grand scale of things it’s pretty minor for a sexual offence but still it’s not to say what would have happened if they hadn’t told anybody or they hadn’t run out of the shop or they went back in to the shop another time or they hadn’t told their mums.”

He added: “She’s still upset about it.

“It’s not something she has forgotten. She’s still going on about it.

“The last time I was in New Cumnock we went in the Indian restaurant and she was saying ‘he won’t be in here will he?’.

“She’s that worried about going in to where there’s Asian folk working in case he’s there.”

Mokhtar appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week alongside a translator as he was sentenced.

Sentencing, Sheriff Mhairi MacTaggart said: “As an alternative to a period of imprisonment I’m going to make you subject to a community payback order.”

Mokhtar was given 18 months supervision and was also placed on the sex offenders register for 18 months and ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 17.
