NEW Cumnock has once again been handed more flooding misery.

The notorious flooding blackspot has been badly affected by the heavy downpour from Storm Frank.

Police are now urging people to avoid the area if possible.

The A76 is closed in both directions through the town because of the severe flooding.

A713 Patna to Dalmellington road is also closed.

One reader informed the Chronicle that the road from Waterside to Dalmellington was treacherous and impassable and the road between Patna and Waterside is also perilous.

Police Scotland have confirmed via Twitter that the A719 at Waterside is now open and is passable with care.

Dumfries and Galloway Council have released a report on the flooding in the area.

The A713 at Carsphairn has also been closed, with diversions in place from Dalmellington and Castle Douglas and the A713 at other locations further south is impassable.

The C129n north of Sanquhar is closed.

Bus services have been affected, with New Cumnock completely closed to Stagecoach services - including the number 43, 246 and 356 services.

Police are urging drivers across East Ayrshire to travel with caution. Police Scotland are warning drivers if their car starts to aquaplane the best thing to do is remove pressure from the accelerator to lower speed and allow the tyres to regain their grip.

Police in Dumfries and Galloway have warned locals in Sanquhar that power may be lost in the area and are urging people to fill a flash with tea or coffee and to look out for neighbours.

At 5pm on Wednesday (December 30) evening the A76 New Cumnock and A713 between Patna & Dalmellington remain closed.
