IT'S one of the many forgotten mining village's of East Ayrshire.

But Glenbuck - is on the comeback trail in the shape of a brand new book which chronicles the squads of top flight football players that hailed from the tiny village.

Authors Adam Powley and Robert Gillan joined forces to tell the story in their new book, Shankly's Village.

The duo came together to detail, tell stories and anecdotes and provide exclusive insight in to Glenbuck.

Adam, from Surrey, is a journalist, lecturer, and author of over 20 books including a collaboration with Pele, 61: The Spurs Double, Spurs Miscellany and The Boys from White Hart Lane.

Robert, from Douglas, is a former youth player with Clyde and a youth coach with international experience who has set up the Glenbuck Academy to help aspiring local footballers.

The pair have worked tirelessly for over three years making the idea in to a reality, with Robert undertaking a mammoth research project and Adam writing much of the book.

Speaking to the Chronicle this week, Robert said: "I started the project in 2012. It's based on Glenbuck and it's terrible that nothing has really been set up about it.

"First and foremost, myself and Adam we were fascinated by the village of Glenbuck.

"It was three long years of research for myself. My wife was pulling her hair out at one point.

Now Robert is setting his sights on a new heritage centre dedicated to Glenbuck as well as start up a youth football academy.

The book was released back in October and Robert and Adam's title is available in most book stores. Robert will be doing a signing session for anyone who wants their copy of Shankly's Village signed on Friday, November 13 at the Coach House Inn, Muirkirk from 3pm until 6pm.
