They donated the money to The Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RSABI), who support people who worked in land-based occupations and have suffered hardship, with the rally raising £500, and the remainder coming from the run itself.

With the kind permission of Dumfries House, Cumnock, 59 tractors started off there before travelling 30 miles through Skares, Sinclairston, Hayhill, Commonhead, Enterkine Estate, Stair, Ochiltree and back.

Meanwhile Jim Craig of Craig Wilson Ltd, asks that the club donates £500 to charity, in lieu of payment for the use of Whitefordhill, Ayr, for the annual rally.

Nina Clancy, chief executive of the charity, said: “On behalf of RSABI, I would like to thank AVTMC enormously for their generous contribution. The charity is expanding significantly with regard to the number of people we help.

“From farmers and crofters to foresters, fish-farmers and estate workers, RSABI supports thousands of people across rural Scotland each year, whether they are still working, retired or dependant on someone who has worked on the land. 2015 will be remembered for its cruel weather and poor prices, and many people are finding they need RSABI for financial help and emotional support.” Russell McNab of AVTMC said: “This year’s run and rally were both tremendous events. Our members take great pride in restoring and maintaining these wonderful pieces of machinery, and although the tractors have already visited Dumfries House twice in recent years, the opportunity to drive through the Estate once again was a very special one.

“The Harvest Road Run held particular personal significance for my wife and me, as I began my farming career as a tractor driver at Dumfries House just after we were married.

“In recent years, I have once again been able to visit the Estate and it pleases me greatly to be able to return there and see the changes that have been made. I am so pleased that Prince Charles has done so much for the Estate and the surrounding district.

“Because this has been an especially difficult year for farmers, it is very important for everyone to be able to get together from time to time, and do something enjoyable like the Road Run.

“The fact that we were able to raise money at the same time for such an important cause as RSABI makes it even more worthwhile.”
