COMMUNITY activist Carol Mochan has spoken of her pride after being named as Labour’s candidate in Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley for the Scottish Parliamentary Elections in 2016.

The mum-of-two from Mauchline, grew up in the constituency, and attended Girvan Primary School and Auchinleck Academy.

Having worked in the NHS and now running a successful local business, Carol is also well-known as a director of Mauchline Burns Bairns, a community-based organisation providing children’s services.

Speaking after being selected, Carol said: “I’m incredibly proud that local members backed me to fight for the Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley seat in 2016.

As a Labour Party member from this constituency, I have already been campaigning with Sandra Osborne MP and Cathy Jamieson MP to take Labour’s message to local people.

I will be working hard to meet with as many people as possible across the constituency to ensure that residents get the opportunity to discuss Labour’s plans for a fairer Scotland.” Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP Sandra Osborne said:“I’m delighted to congratulate Carol on her selection. She is a very hard working and committed person and would make an excellent MSP for this constituency. I am looking forward to campaigning with her to secure a Labour win.” Former Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley MSP and current MP for Kilmarnock and Loudoun Cathy Jamieson said:“I am really pleased that local members have selected Carol to fight the Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley constituency. She brings experience from her time in the NHS and the Trade Union movement as well as running a small business and being one of the driving forces behind a very successful local children’s service. She would be an excellent constituency MSP and I will be doing my best to ensure that she is elected in 2016.”
