AYRSHIRE and Arran has attracte more repeat visits than any other region in Scotland, according to new research.

The Scotland Visitor Survey 2011-2012 shows that 85 per cent of holiday-makers were on a return trip, while 93 per cent said they would recommend Ayrshire and Arran to others.

Conducted by VisitScotland, the national tourism organisation, the survey also reveals that 82 per cent were considering returning to the region within the next five years, Going to the beach proved particularly popular, with more than half (52 per cent) hitting the sand while in the region, while taking in historic castles and houses also rated highly.

Annique Armstrong, Regional Director at VisitScotland, said: "Given all the wonderful things to see and do in Ayshire and Arran, from our stunning scenery to our quality range of food and drink, I am not surprised that so many visitors choose to return here time and time again.

"Ailsa Craig features in a brand new VisitScotland television advert celebrating the Year of Natural Scotland, which I am sure will help to encourage even more visitors to this beautiful part of the country." The latest full-year statistics available for the region show that 780,000 people visited Ayrshire and Arran in 2011, generating �207 million for the economy.
