The first of two performances involving over 300 Ayrshire girls took place at the Magnum Theatre in Irvine last night. The girls, who are all involved in the Free To Dance programme currently being run by YDance, performed dance numbers in a wide variety of styles from hip-hop to lindy hop, Bollywood to break-dancing. After a lot of preparation the participants spent all day yesterday in final rehearsals for the first show which went down really well with the audience.
Anna Kenrick (Project Director) said: 'The girls had a great time last night performing for an almost sold out audience who were really enthusiastic and responsive to the evening's entertainment. Our next group of girls are in rehearsals as we speak for another jam packed show tonight.' 14 groups performed in last night's performance and a further 13 will be taking to the stage tonight at the Magnum Theatre, including girls from the Girvan Youth Trust, the Ardrossan Youth Hut and the Yummy Mummys from Irvine.
