A week-long celebration of women will start on Monday 1 March with a Question Time evening entitled 'Women who have broken the Glass Ceiling'.

The Question Time session, which will launch a week of events for International Women's Week, will consist of a panel of Cathy Jamieson; Fiona Lees, Chief Executive of East Ayrshire Council; Ms Gerri Watt, Ayrshire Procurator Fiscal; Sandra White, Consultant Nurse NHS Ayrshire & Arran; Provost Stephanie Young and Councillor Kathy Morrice. The ticket only event will discuss the ever-changing role of women in business and politics.

Throughout the week there will be a series of events including a family history workshop at the Burns Monument Centre, pamper sessions, an introduction to IT course and an Asian cultural day at the Barrhill Centre in Cumnock.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Chair of the Community Planning Partnership said: "International Women's Week is an annual event celebrated around the world to provide an opportunity to celebrate women's achievements and continued aspirations for equality in all aspects of life. The events organised locally will allow women to try new experiences and help them to reach their full potential. I am sure it will be a very successful week."
