The ultimate luxury of a cashmere scarf

Cashmere is a wonderfully luxurious material, warm and comforting, soft and sensuous to the skin. A Cashmere scarf is one of the winter's must-have accessories, and any wearer will be delighted with its feel and look.

The fabric comes from the Cashmere goat, and the fibres are extremely soft to the touch. They retain the heat, making them a wonderful insulator, and many people find that once they've had Cashmere, artificial scarves just don't cut the mustard.

The goat's fine hairs are mechanically separated from the coarse hairs, ensuring only the softest materials are available. In some regions, this is done by hand, a painstaking but vital part of the process. After that, dyes are used to create the required colours.

Cashmere has been used for over 1,000 years, and nowadays the world's largest producer is China.

Synthetic scarves fail to provide the warmth that Cashmere brings, unless they're made from bulkier material. One of the beauties of Cashmere is that it is a relatively light material, enabling the wearer to enjoy all the comfort and luxury without feeling smothered by a heavy scarf.

Many Cashmere scarves are wide enough to be worn as pashminas, extremely useful if the temperature drops suddenly. They're available in all shapes and sizes, colours and patterns. Whether you favour a plain, classic navy blue or a trendy loud check, a Cashmere scarf is the ultimate accessory
