Ayr United defender Craig Pettigrew is hoping to make a quickfire return to senior football after being released by the team he supports.

Former Lugar youngster Pettigrew, from Mauchline, was one of several first-team regulars told they could leave by Somerset Park boss Brian Reid. But he insists he isn't bitter about being dumped and is looking forward to a fresh challenge, whether it be with a senior or junior club.

Pettigrew was a stand-out in a Lugar side bossed then by Jimsie Kirkland. And with several junior sides said to be interested, Pettigrew could be returning to a Cumnock and Doon Valley club.
