Doubts of 'Nock's Campbell

Scottish Cup goal hero Gareth Campbell is a major doubt for Cumnock as they try to secure a place in the last eight by ousting Newtongrange Star.

Campbell, whose double helped ‘Nock stun cup holders Linlithgow Rose in the last round, has picked up an ankle injury and, according to boss Campbell Money, would have missed Saturday’s scheduled tie against the East Region side, had the game not bit the dust due to a frozen pitch.

Now, Money has revealed that club physio Will Calliston will be working round the clock to ensure his star player has a chance of making it for the big game.

Money said: “Gareth wouldn’t have played against Newtongrange because of a reoccurence of an ankle injury, so the call-off gives him another week to try and recover. But at this stage I would say he has around a 50-50 chance of playing this weekend.

“He was desperate to play and despite him saying he felt okay I knew myself there was no chance he would play. We cannot risk playing him if it means we lose him for a longer period of time.
