Police in Sanquhar are appealing for witnesses after a local 17 year old boy fell from the open boot of a moving blue Nissan.

The incident happened on the B797 Mennock to Elvanfoot road at around 12.15hrs on Sunday 5 October.

The boy sustained injuries in the incident and was transferred to DGRI to receive treatment. His condition is currently described as critical.

Inspector Ian Fraser from the Mobile Support Group said: “The boy was sitting in the open boot of the vehicle when he fell out as it began to move. The car was being driven by a local 72 year old man.

“We are still collecting information as to why the boy was in the boot of the vehicle and what exactly happened for him to fall.

“If you saw this car in the area around the time of the incident or just prior to it please contact us. Anyone with any information should ring 0845 600 5701 or speak to any police officer. Information can also be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
