WIDOW DEMANDS PUBLIC INQUIRY
By Sandy Kilpatrick
The Widow of a man crushed to death in an opencast accident believes a full public inquiry is the only way to get all the answers.
And now MSP Adam Ingram has vowed to support the families of the men killed at the Pennyvennie Opencast.
Lorna French, 49, claims Scottish Coal ‘don’t know what we are going through’ and has called for the inquiry after the company were fined £400,000 last week for preventable health and safety breaches that led to the death of her husband and Colin Ferguson from Prestwick.
The Kelloholm woman who last Saturday should have been celebrating her 23rd Wedding anniversary, said: “You go to work in the morning, you’re supposed to come back’
Lorna French is bitter that lessons did not seem to have been learned following a similar, non-fatal accident two years before her husband died.
She said; “Something should have been done in 2005 and maybe Brian and Colin would still be with us. I don’t want it forgotten.
“I don’t want Brian forgotten.”
